We made it. Finally. Carol has driven 1725 miles. And are now in a room at the Hyatt overlooking Quivira Basin. The last day was the hardest. After stopping for lunch in Sherman Oaks with another Carol, one of my oldest friends, it took us almost five hours to travel the last 130 miles, all on freeways, about half of it stop and go. We expected heavy traffic in Los Angeles, but there was also a fifteen to twenty mile backup just north of Oceanside.
We reached the hotel at 5:30 PM yesterday and once in our room opened a celebratory bottle of champagne I bought at a nearby supermarket and sipped it on the balcony while watching boats and hearing sea lions bark far below.

Webb - Congratulations ! Back to where it all began many, many years ago. Hoping your return brings back fond memories.
Are you planning to go to your favorite taco place near Mission Bay? Hope it is still there.
Scott - Los Angeles
Thanks, Scott. The achievement is Carol’s. I was merely cargo which navigated.
We were very much looking forward to tacos at the Royal Rooster, but discovered last evening that it has gone out of business, as has another restaurant on the other side of the basin. There certainly are a lot of people wandering about here, but perhaps they couldn’t make it through the less busy winters. Too bad. They were great tacos.
