San Diego: eternal truth; clank; money back

I know few eternal truths, but one of them is that stanchions on boats leak.  If they aren’t leaking now, they will.  The sideways stresses on them are inevitable.  And even if you seal the leaks, they will leak again.

There is a stanchion near where I place my pillow when sleeping on the v-berth.  It leaks.  I have resealed it many times.  We had rain last night and when I woke this morning the lower corner of my pillow was wet.  This did not disturb my sleep.  I will not be able to apply more sealant until the deck is dry, which is not likely to be soon.

In the past I have had two plastic daily water bottles on GANNET, one to drink from, one to pour from.  The pouring bottle cracked a few days ago.  I bought it in Bundaberg, Australia four years ago so I have no complaint.  Being pleased with my metal Yeti coffee cup—I don’t know if it is steel or aluminum—I walked to a shopping center on Sunday and bought three new bottles of various sizes, all metal.  That should make them last my lifetime and probably several more.  However, I have already realized just sitting here tied to the dock that they are going to clank when underway.  One problem after another.  Which may be a definition of life.  We are essentially problem solvers—as well as problem makers.  I expect I will be investing in some cheap wrapping towels.

If you are vacationing in San Diego this week you are entitled to your money back.  It rained last night intermittently.  It is raining now just after noon as you can see from the above current GRIB.  The low causing the rain is in the lower left hand corner of the GRIB and when that moves on another is coming.  The GRIB shows rain parts of every day for the next seven, except Saturday.  Not a lot, but un-San Diego like and not what the tourist office promotes.
