Hilton Head Island: moments of peace

I tried to go sailing yesterday  A little more wind than I wanted when I left the slip at 10:30 died when I reached Port Royal Sound.  I didn’t feel like drifting so powered back and anchored for the afternoon and night near the mouth of Skull Creek and found moments of peace.  I shot a short video there which you can see at:

After a quiet night, interrupted at 4 AM by the wake of a power boat passing at speed, I raised anchor at first light just after 6 AM.  It came up clean as the anchor always has around this island.  There was so much dew on the deck I wore foul weather gear.  Low tide had just passed, so I had the flood with me on the return to the marina and it often pushed us diagonally as we rounded the curve to the west of the sand islands.

I docked at 7 in a cloud of no-seeums which devoured me before I could spray myself with OFF.  Despite the contradiction, I have never seen so many no-seeums.  It was difficult not to inhale them.  So I adjusted the dock lines and did the minimum necessary before walking home.  I’ll go down tomorrow and straighten up.
